Starting off our 2021 Hiboy S11 electric penny board review with a brief overview. This aptly named model is a mini penny board, single motor variant of the S22. We loved the name, considering everything is effectively halved; including price & charge time. However, there are still a number of features both boards share, including 4 riding/braking modes & the inclusion of an ergonomic controller.
This wireless controller allows riders to accelerate, brake, reverse, power on/off and much more. Much like the S22, this model is extremely cost-effective; offering decent specs & features for a fraction of the price of most competitors. As such, we believe this electric penny board makes a great choice for casual riders and commuters alike. Feel free to learn more about this eBoard in the rest of our 2021 Hiboy S11 review below.
Top speed of 12.4 mp/h, a fairly decent top speed considering its single 350W motor. However, please note that variables such as rider weight, terrain, incline, etc. will impact overall performance.
What age/weight is it suitable for?
Whilst we found no mention of any recommended age, we believe this board best suited to riders aged 13+. In terms of suitable weights, the Hiboy S11 supports between 40-180 lbs (18-81 kg), whilst weighing a remarkable 7.94 lbs (3.6 kg); an astounding 22 times its own weight, easily making it pound for pound one of the strongest electric skateboards.
What is the range/distance?
Max. range of approx. 6.2 miles off a single charge. Please note that much like top speed, riding variables will impact overall performance.
Can it be used offroad?
Unfortunately, this electric penny board lacks any off-road functionality. Whilst riders could potentially pass through patches of short grass and dry dirt, we recommend avoiding any tricky terrains.
Does it lose power uphill?
Yes – Whilst still suited to slaying hills of up to 8 degree inclines, any steeper and we noticed a significant drop in performance. Furthermore, those nearer the 180 lbs weight limit may notice substantial sacrifice in power when tackling inclines.
Battery Life & Charging
Bringing our 2021 Hiboy S11 review onto battery life & charging. Powered by a 25.2V/ 2.2 Ah battery integrated within the deck, in turn activating the motor and propelling riders to their destination. Whilst little is revealed regarding the battery cells used, its more than likely to be Li-ion. These Lithium-ion cells make much more efficient batteries with faster charge times, larger capacity and more. We also believe the rapid charge time of just 1.5 hours an indicator of this. However, this could be due to a reduction in range/battery size to accommodate for a smaller board. One feature we were surprised to see was regenerative braking, which converts kinetic braking energy into battery power; helping you squeeze out that extra mile. This feature is typically reserved for more expensive models, so seeing it on such a cost-effective eBoard is always great.
Either way, such a rapid charge time of 1.5 hours is something special; alongside a perfect electric skateboard for commuters, as you can almost fully charge on your lunch break alone. Whilst most models typically integrate some form of battery management system to counteract overvoltage, overcurrent, etc., there is no official statement regarding this. As such, we recommend contacting the supplier for more information. However, we believe it more than likely such a system is in place, especially considering modern models must now adhere to a selection of strict fire & electrical safety standards.
How long does it take to charge?
The Hiboy S11 has a lightning fast charging time of just 1.5 hours from empty; making it one of the fastest charging electric skateboards we’ve reviewed.
How long will the battery last for?
Unspecified – Typically, most models utilise Li-ion batteries, which are more efficient & last longer than conventional counterparts. However as this is unspecified, we cannot guarantee or even speculate an average battery lifecycle for this model.
Design and Ergonomics
Moving our 2021 Hiboy S11 review onto design & ergonomics. To begin, this electric mini skateboard utilises the “penny board” shape; opting for a much smaller, compact and lightweight alternative to a full sized board. In fact, this smaller design choice is likely why the S11 is one of the lightest electric skateboards we’ve reviewed. These electric penny boards are a much more effective choice for commuters; allowing for easy transport, compact storage and an exciting ride. However this does come at a cost, mostly in the form of battery size, instead opting for a smaller yet lighter & faster charging battery.
The wireless controller is also another nice feature. Whilst these controllers have fast become standard for many models, its always nice to have; especially considering some similarly priced competitors don’t include this. This controller allows riders to power on/off, accelerate, reverse, brake, check battery, and much more. The deck is designed from wood/aluminium, staying strong & durable yet maintaining an incredibly light board.
Ergonomically speaking, this board can prove a little difficult to ride for beginners, mostly due to the mini deck. However once you have the hang of riding, it offers a highly convenient and comfortable ride. Discover more about this epic electric penny board in the rest of our 2021 Hiboy S11 review!

What brakes does the Hiboy S11 have?
Whilst the exact specs of the brakes remain undisclosed, riders have two options of how to slow down; either manually or via the electric brake on the controller. Furthermore, riders have the choice between 4 braking modes, each offering varying degrees of power.
No – However, it does feature a hand-held controller, in which riders control speed, power, braking mode, etc.
Does it work as a regular skateboard?
Yes – Feel free to start moving those legs once your battery runs out, although we don’t recommend grinding any rails!
Build quality and ease of use
Bringing our 2021 Hiboy S11 review onto build quality & ease of use. We were actually fairly surprised with the overall solid build quality of this model, especially considering the price. Hiboy further impressed us by somehow achieving a weight of 7.8 lbs without delivering a flimsy deck. For some perspective, an average new born baby weighs around the same; effectively meaning you can take your board anywhere you can bring your baby, if not both at the same time. With a deck made from wood/aluminium, we were expecting a lightweight yet weak deck, which the S11 defied.
This electric penny board can easily take a number of harsh hits and bumps without breaking. However, with the battery integrated on the bottom of the deck, we advise avoiding any rail grinds and other tricks. Regenerative braking is another great feature we didn’t expect to see, usually reserved for higher-end models. Honestly, it’s admirable that Hiboy have managed to achieve such a solid board for such a cost-effective price. As previously mentioned, newer riders might find the smaller deck a little difficult. However once acclimated, riders might find they have more control than ever before.
How easy is it to carry?
Extremely easy – With a weight of 7.8 lbs, you’ll have a harder time picking up a new born baby. Such a ludicrous light weight combined with a small deck makes this board highly portable; an ideal electric skateboard for commuters.
How smooth is the ride?
Provided riders stick to even surfaces as intended, they’ll enjoy a suitably smooth ride, without any compromise of control.
Safety and usability on the road
Switching to the most important section of our Hiboy S11 review; safety & usability on the road. Much like its S22 longboard brother, the S11 completely lacks lighting. As such, we highly advise riders only use this board during the day. Alongside this, we also recommend picking up some aftermarket lighting, either online or in-store.
Whilst clear that this electric penny board is intended for use on smooth surfaces and streets, rider responsibility is clearly important for a board of this type. As such, we insist riders wear decent protective gear, including a helmet, gloves, reflective clothing, etc., especially when riding on the road. The legalities of even traditional skateboards on the street remains contested, so please check your local laws & regulations surrounding these transport methods.
No – We highly recommend riders purchase some aftermarket lighting for their board.
Restrictions and availability
Hiboy states that they operate in the United States, Spain and Germany. Furthermore, they likely ship to countries throughout the world. Although, we cannot promise that your region is included in this list. We also recommend checking the regulations and local laws of your region and ensuring they accommodate PEV’s. Customers within the US will enjoy fast & free shipping, with those worldwide further enjoying a 30-day return policy.

Hiboy S11 Review Summary
Welcome to our Hiboy S11 review for 2021. Before we begin, feel free to check out our brief summary, alongside some of the pros & cons of this board below. This brand have a habit of squeezing in a few fantastic, higher-end features into their models from time to time; however we were especially surprised to see these features on an already cost-effective budget board. Features such as regenerative braking, riding modes and a rapid 1.5 hour charge time are just a few features that really set the S11 apart from other similarly priced competitors. Whilst a little more power would be nice, we feel like the performance offered for the price is very fair, and would wholeheartedly recommend this board to commuters with short journeys and casual riders alike. Please note that our final ratings are relative to price category, specification range, etc.
