Starting off our 2021 Apollo Ghost review with a brief overview; covering some specs & stats in greater detail. For starters, this is one of the most powerful models available from Apollo. The max. dual motor output is stunning, allowing for some awesome acceleration times. The design is remarkably robust, in part thanks to the forged aluminium frame, affording greater durability.
As a mid-priced scooter, we were pleasantly surprised to see so many high-end features packed into this magnificent model. We loved every part about this scooter, from it’s sleek design to the potent performance offered. After riding for ourselves, it was clear why this model is one of their best rated. Feel free to learn more about the Apollo Ghost in the rest of our review.
Starting off our 2021 Apollo Ghost review with speed, power and distance; all of which this model excels at. Dual 800W motors offer a peak output of up to 2000W, propelling riders to speeds of up to 34 mp/h. This is a remarkably rapid top speed, as most similarly priced scooters often cap out at ~20 mp/h. In fact, these mighty motors also allow for awesome acceleration. Riders can reach speeds of 0-15 mp/h in just 3.1 seconds, or take it from 0-25 mp/h in 5.3 seconds; perfect for any drag racers or getaway drivers.
With such sheer power offered, it’s no surprise that the Ghost humiliates hills with ease, tackling inclines of up to 25 degrees. Riders can choose between 3 gear modes, each offering various levels of speed & power. Gear 1 offers a max. speed of 15 mp/h, gear 2 offers 25 mp/h; with gear 3 lastly offering 34 mp/h. However, the fun doesn’t stop there. The Apollo Ghost also delivers a max. range of approx. 39 miles; which should prove more than enough for most riders.
Switch at will between single/dual motor & double your output. Alternatively, go the extra mile in eco mode or live on the edge in Turbo mode. However, we recommend switching modes when stationary, as switching when moving can result in rapid braking and potential accidents. We have the brilliant Li-ion battery to thank for such range, which we discuss more of below.
How fast does it go?
Top speed of approx. 34 mp/h. Riders can choose from 3 gear modes, each offering varying top speeds. Lastly, please note that variables such as rider weight, terrain, incline, weather, etc. will affect overall performance.
Like most of their models, Apollo Scooters recommend the Ghost to riders between the ages of 18 to 60 years. This is likely due to the sheer power & acceleration offered by this model & is clearly designed for experienced riders. In terms of recommended loads, this model supports weights of up to 300 lbs (135 kg) whilst weighing 64 lbs (29kg); approx. 4.6 times its own weight.
What is the range/distance?
The Apollo Ghost offers an average range of 39 miles off a single charge. We believe this range should prove more than enough for casual scooter fans and commuters alike. Feel free to consult our speed, power & distance section above for more information. Also, please note that variables such as rider weight, terrain, weather, incline, etc. will impact overall performance.
Battery Life & Charging
Bringing our 2021 Apollo Ghost eScooter review to battery life & charging. For starters, the 52V 18.2aH battery contains lithium-ion cells sourced from Dynavolt; global leaders in manufacturing high-performance batteries for motorcycles. Apollo have clearly decided to upgrade this model with a much beefier battery than its counterparts.
We believe it a strong factor in the overall performance of this model, offering ranges of up to 39 miles; all whilst still powering that might 2000W peak motor and affording that 34 mp/h top speed. Regenerative braking is always a great feature, converting kinetic braking energy into battery power; helping you squeeze out the extra mile.
Alongside this, a smart power management system is also incorporated. This protects against common faults such as overvoltage, heat regulation, over/under-current and much more. Whilst such a big battery requires a longer charge time, riders should have no issue with a fast charger or dual charging.
This also allows for the amazing acceleration covered earlier, allowing riders to leave their rivals in the dust. As previously mentioned, the fully integrated battery offers some protection against the elements, with replacement batteries offered by Apollo.
How long does it take to charge?
Whilst offering a remarkable ride and sheer power, the Apollo Ghost falls short regarding charge time; requiring up to 12 hours to charge from empty. However, riders can utilise an optional fast charger, halving the charge time to just 4 hours. Alongside this, this model includes dual charging ports, allowing you to double your charge input and halve your time spent waiting.
Battery protection & safety
As with the rest of their models, the Ghost claims a smart power management system. This protects against a variety of faults or failures, which includes: short circuits, over-discharging, temperature regulation, over-current, overcharge and much more.
With the battery fully integrated within the frame, the model can sustain a few brutal bumps without taking damage. Lastly, this model claims a waterproof rating of IP56, protecting it from dust ingress and high-pressure water blasts; effectively keeping your battery safe from the elements.
How long will the battery last for?
Lithium-ion batteries typically offer around 500-1000+ charge cycles before any issues occur. As a premium quality lithium-ion battery (sourced from Dynavolt, a leading supplier), riders should expect the latter of this figure.
Furthermore, Apollo themselves estimate an average of 600 charge cycles before any potential faults arise. The Battery Management System also helps protect against overvoltage, overcurrent and many other common faults; extending battery life. Lastly, riders can easily source spares & replacements from Apollo’s spare parts section, or contact their 7-days a week support team.
Design and Ergonomics
Moving our 2021 Apollo Ghost review onto design & ergonomics. For starters, this is one stylish scooter, offering a remarkably robust yet aesthetic design. The deck is wide and spacious, allowing for comfortable riding at all times. Alongside this, the mat offers a great level of grip and enhances rider safety.
Front, rear and deck LED lighting maintains rider vision, keeping them safe, seen & stylish. Foot & hand brakes are both conveniently situated, allowing for sharp braking on demand. The fully folding frame and handlebars also make this eScooter suitable for commuters; greatly enhancing mobility and allowing quick, easy & compact storage.
Dual spring suspension simply soaks up any harsh hits, ensuring a smooth ride throughout. Unlike most models available, riders can actually adjust their spring suspension to suit their needs. 10″ air-filled pneumatic tires also offer greater grip & decent shock absorption; however remain susceptible to puncturing.
Although, air-filled rubber tires are much cheaper & easier to replace than solid rubber tires. The previously mentioned regenerative braking is another awesome feature we’re always happy to see. Continue reading our Apollo Ghost scooter review to learn about build quality & ease of use.
What material is it made from?
Forged aluminium frame, 10-inch rubber pneumatic tires, LED lighting, spring suspension, Dynavolt lithium-ion cells.
Suitable for use as a regular scooter?
Yes – once you run out of battery or turn off the motor, start moving those legs!
Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?
Unfortunately, we were unable to find any Apollo mobile app page, or evidence of Bluetooth support. However, their website does state that the ‘Ludicrous’ model features a dedicated app & phone mount; although this is only compatible for iOS devices.
Build quality and ease of use
Switching our Apollo Ghost review to the build quality & ease of use section. Starting off, the overall build quality of this model if magnificent; utilising a forged aluminium frame for greater durability whilst helping reduce weight. Whilst a a little heavier than most at (64 lbs) 29 kg, most riders should still have no problems manoeuvring this model. We believe this added weight is due to a bigger battery and enhanced lighting.
With such a hardy yet stylish design, its clear the Ghost can take some punishment; withstanding a few savage smashes without warping, denting or bending. To attest to their confidence in build quality, Apollo even offer 1 year warranty on all official purchases; protecting you against any faults that arise throughout this period.
The cabling is clearly reinforced, helping protect against the elements and any crashes. Furthermore, the Apollo Ghost boasts a waterproof rating of IP54, protecting against dust ingress and sustained water splashing. However, we don’t recommend riding for prolonged periods in heavy rain, or submerging your scooter. The battery is also of top quality, utilising lithium-ion cells from industry leading Dynavolt.
In terms of ease of use, this model was extremely easy to get the hang of. LED display is clearly & conveniently located, displaying battery life, speed, mileage and more. The deck is spacious and easily enough to comfortably stand and move around on. Lastly, the fully folding frame allows for quick & easy transport & stowage, making it an option for commuters. Definitely a multi-functional model that we heavily recommend.
Safety and usability on the road
Switching our 2021 Apollo Ghost review onto our most important section; safety & usability on the road. Judging from its capabilities, its clear that this model was intended for strictly roadside use. Whilst those 10″ pneumatic wheels offer some off-road functionality, it remains extremely limited. As such, we can state that riders should expect to use this scooter on the road.
As we all know rider safety is serious, wherever you are. Luckily, the Apollo Ghost includes a number of features to maintain these safety standards. For starters, this scooter ensures you stay seen and safe; thanks to a reflective side-strip & bright front, rear & under-deck LED lighting. Not only does this help you see & stay seen on darker days, it also adds some serious style points. Key ignition lock is another great feature, helping protect your ride against theft & unauthorised use.
Reinforced cabling, electrical encasing and battery protecting also offers a much safer ride, further protecting against any electrical fault. The previously mentioned dual spring suspension soaks up harsh hits, helping maintain rider control and keep you on track. Dual disc brakes are another essential feature, enabling riders to make short, sudden stops at a moments notice.
For reference, this scooter has a stopping distance of 8 ft from 15 mp/h. Ample acceleration is offered, with single/dual motors allowing you to easily keep up with most inner-city traffic. However, we recommend switching motor modes when stationary; as it can cause unwarranted braking and compromises rider control if changed when moving. Due to these inclusions, we believe the Apollo Ghost perfectly suitable for roadside use. Lastly, we insist that riders wear adequate safety gear, such as a high-visibility jacket, helmet, gloves, etc. when riding on the road.
As always, check your local laws and regulations and ensure these scooters legal in your region. Many suppliers state that it is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that this model is legal in respective regions. In some places, there are regulations regarding the maximum motor power allowed, etc. Currently, Apollo offer 1 years warranty on all official purchases, protecting you against any faults not your own.
They also offer free continental shipping within the US, however still ship internationally. Customers can enjoy free, 7 days a week support between 9am – 9pm.
