A privately owned and operated company Halo Board has grown massively since starting the business in 2005 and now has big headquarters in Los Angeles. The company strives to bring high-end products like electric skateboards, hoverboards, and drones to consumers doorsteps.
Halo Board spends enormous amounts of resources on R&D to create “what was unthinkable or out of reach” and we think they did exactly that with Halo Board 2 Carbon edition electric skateboard. These days we are used to seeing electric skateboards, scooters, and hoverboards in every city, but 5-10 years ago we could just dream or see in movies a skateboard that goes by its own. Well, Halo Board 2 is just that, a stylish, sleek, and light skateboard that goes on its own. It is the future!
Halo Board Carbon Edition is a high-end electric longboard that is very light, very fast and has an amazing build quality. It is great for urban environment commutes for experienced riders and beginners who are looking for a good quality product that is also eco-friendly.
Check out our review of Halo Board Carbon Edition for detailed specifications and our honest opinion about the board.
Speed, Power & Distance
Halo Board Carbon Edition electric longboard a.k.a Halo Board 2 is really powerful and we wouldn’t expect less from Halo Board. This electric skateboard is powered by dual brushless motors for a combined 3000 Watt power. The motors are hidden inside the wheels so not only they are invisible and make the skateboard look sleek, but they also make the board much quieter than the boards with outside motors.
How fast does it go?
Halo Board 2 can reach a maximum speed of 35.5 km/h (22m/h) for a very swift and stable ride. We were really happy with Halo Board 2 tests since we managed to get to maximum speed several times with an average weight rider ]which is rare these days with electric travel vehicles since manufacturers usually test for maximum speeds on very flat surfaces with light riders.
Does it have more than one speed setting?
Yes, the Halo Board 2 has 2 speed modes which are Regular and Beast. We are fans of speed modes for two reasons. One is that it allows beginner riders to get used to fast accelerating skateboards or in general get accustomed to using an electric skateboard. The other reason is that sometimes, especially in urban settings, you don’t want to go on maximum speed in order to avoid pedestrians or ride between car traffic.
We are glad that Halo Board 2 has speed modes, but we would have been even happier if it had 3 speed modes for even more versatility.
What age/weight is it suitable for?
Halo Board 2 being made from carbon fiber is very strong and durable which allows riders up to 130 kg (286 lbs) to enjoy it. Having much bigger max rider weight makes Halo Board 2 one of the best electric skateboards for heavy riders.
The age limit for riders is not specified by Halo Board so you have to make your own decisions whether to let your children ride it or not. Just remember that it is your own responsibility and it is always best to keep children under supervision at all times when powerful and fast electric vehicles are involved.
What is the range/distance?
With the Halo Board 2 longboard, you will be able to travel up 19 km (12 miles) with a full charge. While doing our tests we managed to get 17.5 km (11 miles) which is very close to maximum mileage. The range on this board compared to other electric skateboards does not stand out but is enough for us to do short travels or for the last mile commuting.
Can it be used offroad?
You will not really be able to go off-roading with this board because of the small skateboard wheels. This board is designed for smooth roads, pavements, and boardwalks. If you want an electric skateboard to go off-roading we would advise going for an Evolve skateboard.
Battery Life & Charging
Halo Board 2 is equipped with a 36V 7ah 252Wh Lithium-Ion battery that is hidden inside the deck.
How long does it take to charge?
It will take you around 3 hours to charge the battery 0-100%. Charge time is not impressive but not too long.
Battery protection & safety
First of all the Lithium-ion battery is protected by being inside the carbon fiber deck. The battery is also LG Firesafe certified that comes with UL certified charger.
How long will the battery last for?
Your Lithium-Ion battery should last from 500-1000 charge cycles before starting to majorly drop in performance. The battery lifespan depends on a lot of circumstances like charging habits, battery quality, or maintenance so no one knows the exact answer. But usually, you can estimate a Lithium-Ion battery lifespan by charge cycles. As an example, if you are charging your board daily this means you will get 365 charge cycles a year so your battery should last 2-3 years.
Design and Ergonomics
The design is probably the strongest feature in Halo Board 2. The all-black look is amazing and really futuristic. And you know how they say, you can’t go wrong with black! It will fit with any style or looks no matter age or gender.
The board is also very sleek, its battery pack and other components are inside the deck distributed evenly. Having a sleek board like that does not only look good but also allows to have a much bigger clearance under the deck, so larger unexpected bumps won’t damage or scratch your deck.
Another great feature of the board is the handle at the back of the board. We have already seen a handle on Raptor 2 electric skateboard, which in our opinion was a blunder because the handle wasn’t balanced properly to distribute weight evenly and made the board look bulky. Halo Board 2 handle is at the back of the board, makes it easy to grab and carry for an average sized person since the board is light and not too long. Halo Board 2 dimensions are 91.5 x 25 x 12.7 cm (36 x 9.75 x 5 inches).
The only small detail that we don’t really like about the design of the board is the grip tape. The grip tape is great by itself but it is not on the whole board, yes it looks nice but we want to be safe. The sides, front, and back of the board are not covered by the grip tape, which makes it easy to slip on these parts if you step with wet or muddy shoes.
What material is it made from?
Being made of 100% Japanese T700 carbon fiber makes the board very strong and resistant to braking. As we all know the carbon fiber is very light so the board weights just 6.3 kg (14 lbs) this makes it one of the lightest electric skateboards of this size.
A small disadvantage of the carbon fiber for us is that when you scratch the board it is very visible and will be permanent. Even tho it has a high clearance for jumps, try and keep it from possible scratching.
When Halo Board introduced Carbon edition of their electric skateboard they also redesigned their remote. The 2nd generation remote has an LCD screen that shows current speed, speed modes, battery power, and mileage you traveled.
Additionally, the remote has an LED light at the front. It is not strong enough to illuminate the road in the dark but could be useful as a pocket flashlight.
Remote feels ergonomic and fits well in hand. It is not too big or too small. Easy controls and responsive acceleration/braking.
The only weakness of the remote is the acceleration/braking button quality. We have seen a number of complaints that it breaks easily when the remote is dropped. Hopefully, Halo Boards will fix this issue soon.
Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?
So far there are is no application for Halo Board 2 electric skateboard. However, Halo Boards have an application for their Rover so it would be fair to expect a smartphone app for their skateboard soon too. Feel free to read our 2020 Halo Rover review or continue on for more on this brilliant board.
Build quality and ease of use
Top notch build quality of the skateboard. Carbon fiber deck makes the board exceptionally sturdy and durable so even heavier riders.
Considering the price of the board and the quality you get this is an excellent skateboard for both experienced skaters and beginners who are looking for a high-quality product that should last long.
Whether you are looking for last mile commuting or urban traveling vehicle Halo board 2 is an excellent all-around electric skateboard with remarkable quality and a reasonable price.
Safety and usability on the road
Halo Board Carbon electric skateboard is really easy to ride in the urban environments, you have the slower speed for traffic heavy commutes and beast mode for longer distances travel where you can push the pedal to the max. Even if your travel route has hills the Halo Board 2 should handle them with ease as long as they are not steeper than 25% climb gradient.
As most electric skateboards this one does not have any lights in the front or back so if you decide to ride at night you might want to customize the board with some front lights or reflective stickers.
Even tho this electric longboard has really good and responsive brakes we still advise to always wear a helmet and protective padding.
Are Halo Board Carbon skateboards waterproof?
Even if the carbon fiber deck has good protection from water and dust ingress the skateboard is not waterproof and should be kept away from water sources.
Halo board 2 is easy to ride and coast on high speeds because the carbon fiber deck is very stiff and gives greater stability.
However, more experienced skateboarders and especially longboarders know the difference between a stiff board and a flexible board when it comes to comfort and maneuvering. A more flexible board allows more maneuverability if you want to carve and cruise because it gives more control.
Halo Board 2 is aimed for speed lovers who need stability when going fast. So experienced longboarders looking for a flexible deck should take a look at our Evolve Bamboo GTX review
Restrictions and availability
Halo Boards are currently shipping their products to the contiguous United States, Canada, and Mexico.
We want to remind that you always need to be up-to-date with local laws. We have seen cases where people get fined hundreds of dollars for riding electric skateboards on public roads because they did not know the law. If you decide to travel on public roads and pavements make sure you know your local laws. Every country and even state might have a different take on electric vehicles so spend some time and research your legislation.
